NBA Jam aiming for epic return

As someone who grew up enjoying obsessing over the original NBA Jam games, I have to say that I was a bit skeptical that a modern version of the game could live up to expectations. After viewing the above footage though, I'm prepared to eat my words. October can't come quickly enough.

Monday Night Combat developer walkthrough

Monday Night Combat fans, the countdown is almost at an end. With August 11 just around the corner save up your MS points (1200) and savor this footage. It won't sate your appetite, but that's what Team Fortress 2 is for! Four maps, class based warfare and some snazzy graphics...MNC is shaping up to be a formidable opponent for 'Best in Show' Summer of Arcade '10.

UPDATE: Developer walkthrough #2 can be seen below and it showcases the support class. I have to say that I'm pretty excited about him. He's basically a mixture of the engineer and medic class from TF2. Air strikes, turrets AND a shotgun? Next Wed. can't come soon enough.

Risk: Factions makes me want to punch faces

I am in love with Risk: Factions. Risk has always been one of my favorite board games so I couldn't pass up an XBLA version of the game. The problem is, I suck at it. Or at least, I did suck at it. Recently I've been dominating faces, but if you looked at my loss to win ratio you'd never know. You see, for some reason the developers decided that when someone quits a ranked match (let's say...oh...the last man standing between you and victory) no one wins. The quitter is not fined a loss and the would be victor goes home empty handed after an hour (possibly hours) of hardcore army management and global domination. So EA and Stainless Games...what gives? Can I get my three wins in a row back?

Monday Morning Media Extravaganza!

I love Scott Gairdner, so you should too. Scott from the future has come back in time to warn Scott from the past in..."I'm From The Future". This video is NSFW.

I revel in my nerddom

The 8-Bit crew circa Fall 2009.

I'm not quite sure what it is about being a nerd that makes me shout it from the roof tops. I notice this frequently when in the proximity of other nerds (we have a herd mentality). I love nerding out, don't get me wrong. Connecting with people who share your interests on such a level is always a wonderful feeling. What worries me though is competition. Nerd vs Nerd for who is the nerdiest. I will defend videogames to the death as a choice hobby, but when I start listing reasons why I'm a bigger gamer than you, we all lose.

I find this happening mostly in the presence of a co-worker. She happens to be an actual attractive female who plays WoW. She constantly tries to claim the gamer throne by saying that she, as a WoW addict, is a more "hardcore" gamer than I am. I always detest because, while I don't play WoW nearly as much as she does I spread my time and love across nearly every gaming platform and game style (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC, Mobile). "How can you be a hardcore gamer," I ask her "when you don't even know what an RTS is."

So, what is it about being a gamer that makes us want to be bigger and badder than the rest of the gamers of the world? Sure, I'm a competitive man (you should hear me curse during a game of Risk: Factions) and I love my hobby and field of interest. But when I start rattling off how many hours I devote to videogames my heart sinks a little in my chest. There are so many other things I could do with my life. On the other hand, there's a big part of me that wouldn't change it for the world.
